Ideas! Kristine O'Connell George's
Tips for Young Poets

What kinds of ideas should I put in my writing notebook?

Notebook

Any idea! You can write (or put) anything you like into your writing notebook. Such as:

...a word you like. (A word I have on my notebook is: "barge." I don't know what I'll do with "barge" but I like the way it sounds.)

...a line from a poem that keeps skipping around in your head.

...a sentence you just heard. Or, something funny your little brother said.

...doodles and sketches.

...a picture of the elephant you saw at the zoo.

...an unusual leaf.

Faster ... faster! Write about how it feels to ride your bike in the wind!

Fill your notebook with anything that will help you remember your idea later when you have time to sit and think and write.

Remember:  Take your writing notebook when you go on vacation. Flying . . .

BUT, what if my ideas are silly?
Or bad?
