Tadpole Ranching!

   Polliwogs
   Come see
   What I found:
   Chubby commas,
   Mouths round,
   Plump babies,
   Stubby as toes.
   Polliwogs!
   Tadpoles!

   Come see
   What I found!
   Frogs-in-waiting--
   Huddled in puddles,
   Snuggled in mud.

Am I really a "tadpole rancher"?

     Well . . .

Almost every spring I collect tadpoles from our local creek.  I keep them in a fishbowl on the back patio, and I never get tired of watching those "chubby commas" turn into frogs.

After they are grown, I return them to the creek, and keep a few for my garden.
When I hear croaking on summer nights, I like to think they are my frogs.
